Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of mentoring in preparing application-based financial statements to improve the competence of Islamic Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) entrepreneurs through a qualitative literature review approach. The study systematically synthesizes previous scholarly publications related to mentoring, digital accounting, financial literacy, entrepreneurial competence, and Islamic MSME development. The findings indicate that continuous mentoring significantly enhances entrepreneurs’ accounting knowledge, digital financial skills, and managerial competence by providing practical guidance, personalized assistance, and experiential learning. Application-based financial statement preparation enables entrepreneurs to produce accurate, transparent, and standardized financial reports that support strategic decision-making, business accountability, and sustainable business performance. The study also demonstrates that entrepreneurial competence serves as a key mechanism linking mentoring with improved financial management and organizational competitiveness. Theoretically, this review integrates Human Capital Theory, Technology Acceptance Model, Experiential Learning Theory, and Competency-Based Education Theory into a comprehensive framework explaining competency development through mentoring. Practically, the findings provide recommendations for governments, universities, Islamic financial institutions, and MSME development agencies to implement sustainable mentoring programs that strengthen digital financial capabilities and support the long-term competitiveness of Islamic MSMEs.
